Scale Aviation Modeller International – September 2019

(Elle) #1
very smooth, so a further gloss
coat was not needed. The next
stage was to add some tonal
variation into the camoulage
patterns. For this I used various
shades of Abteilung 502 oils
to match the colours in the
patterns. When using oils, I use
them neat, but dispensed onto
little bits of old cardboard to
allow the oil to seep out of the
pigments. The oils were then
applied using a small brush in
random dots over each colour.
Once I was satisied that I had
enough, it was time to use
a little odourless thinner to
blend in each colour to give the
varied look. This process was
repeated for each of the colours
in the camoulage pattern. The
oil was then allowed twenty-
four hours to dry before I
applied a coat of MRP Semi-
Gloss to seal everything
in and reduce the glare.

FINAL
CONSTRUCTION
Now that the main build was
complete, it was time to focus
on the landing gear, fuel tanks
and wheels. These were all
removed from the sprues, tidied
up and added to my little ice
lolly sticks with double sided
tape running along the length
prior to painting. They were
all primed with MRP Black
Primer which was allowed
to dry overnight. Once the

primer was dry, the landing
gear was painted Aluminium
and the wheels were painted
in MRP Super Matt Black. The
outer doors of the landing gear
were then sprayed the same
colour as the lower fuselage
and slightly weathers to match
the rest of the underside. Once
the paint was dry, they were
all assembled and attached
to the aircraft. With the

build complete, it was time
to complete any touch-ups
and add in the pitot tube.

Thankfully this aircraft does not have a
million stencils!

I added a decent covering of
