CARAVAN TEST

Raise the roof
Four aluminium arms fold out of the
box like a batwing to create a canvas
awning, but first you have to untie
some of the loose canvas sections.
One section folds out and then hangs
over the left panel almost reaching
the ground, while another section has
to be pulled over the box to the far
side of the Tonga.
A hinge connecting the beams sits
on the back corner and thus swings
open rearward. The canvas is attached
to the beams that then forms the
awning as they swing open. The first
beam swings out at the largest angle
to where it stands parallel to the back
of the caravan. This section of the
canvas is attached by a zipper to the
one you’ve previously pulled over the
roof – and the awning forms a single
roof over the entire caravan.
At the tip of each beam, an
adjustable support leg swings down
to the ground, and at the opposite
corners – at the left front and right
rear – loose struts stretches the awing
into shape and curved ribs fit inside
the outer hem of the awning to keep
the shape of the batwing awning neat
and tight.
