AIRFIX

T

o begin this month we have yet another fabulous little starter–style
kit re-released from the good folk at Airfix, the famous Mitsubishi
‘Zero’. Dating from only 2011 this is one of the absolutely beautiful
little kits from recent times out of the Airfix stable. Only 47 parts
are included but that does not mean they scrimp on details with
such treats as cockpit sidewalls and floor, aileron control arms, double bank
representation of the Sakae radial engine with separate propeller hub, and
finely-moulded undercarriage doors with retraction arms moulded in situ. The

one-piece engine cowl is very neatly done, though our example did show the
very beginnings of a little flash around the edges. The kit even provides the
option to cut and fold the wing tips which is nice touch that will create a more
candid appearance one the model is finished.
The decals are printed on a small sheet that carries stencils and national
markings, all perfectly printed by Cartograf. The sheet features just one option:
an aircraft of the 201st Kokuta based at the Tabera Airfi eld, Keravat, East New
Britain, Papua New Guinea during 1944

VERDICT

Once again it is nice to see Airfi x reissuing these little ‘pocket money’ kits with different markings from their original release. If you want an easy, stress free fun
build, or if you are new to the hobby or introducing the youth of today to the hobby, you’ll not go far wrong with this reissued kit. (Mike Williams)
