AIRFIX

T

he lovely little Airfi x Fw190 surfaces again in a new guise, this time as
the ground-attack A-8 variant. Squarely aimed at the pocket-money
market, this kit is basic but still nicely detailed with a pilot fi gure included
along with the option to pose the canopy open or closed and the under-
carriage raised or lowered.
In the box you’ll fi nd three runners carrying just 53 parts, all exuding fi ne details
and delicate panel lines where appropriate. The fabric control surfaces may be a
little overdone for some tastes, but can be easily smoothed out, should the desire
overwhelm you. If we’re being picky the wheels could do with aftermarket replace-

ments as they are somewhat undernourished and show soft details, however
these are no deal breaker. Parts breakdown is pretty conventional with vertically
split fuselage halves and one piece lower wings and upper wing surfaces. A neatly
detailed cockpit is incorporated with decals supplied for the instrument panels.
Being a skill level 1 this kit only supplies markings for one aircraft, that fl own
by Feldwebel Martin Ullman, from 9./JG5 “Eismeer”, Herdla, Norway, during May
of 1945. Complete stencil data is included on the decals along with national and
squadron markings, all perfectly printed by Cartograf in Italy, so you just know
they’ll be fi ne.

VERDICT

Once again it is nice to see Airfi x reissuing these little ‘pocket money’ kits with different markings from their original release. If you want an easy, stress free fun
build, or if you are new to the hobby or introducing the youth of today to the hobby, you’ll not go far wrong with this reissued kit. (Mike Williams)
