EDUARD

This month’s round-up of all that’s new in the world of aircraft modelling...

Released to coincide with this year’s IPMS USA National Championships in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Eduard’s ‘Limited Edition’ release gives us a glimpse of what
this family of new kits will provide as the individual kits are released over the coming months. Replicating the later variant with fi lleted tail-fi n, the kit offers an incredible
opportunity for colour schemes above and beyond the four offered in the kit:

Lt. Edward F. Pogue’s ’CHATTANOOGA CHOO CHOO’, 79th FS, 20th FG, Kings Cliffe, 1945
Lt. Clarence Boretsky’s ‘MEG’, 334th FS, 4th FG, Debden, 1944
Capt. Fredie F. Ohr’s ‘MARIE’, 2nd FS, 52nd FG, Madna, Italy 1944
Lt. Irving Snedeker’s ‘ROVIN’ RHODA’, 364th FS, 357th FG, Leiston, 1945.

From the images found online, the quality of this new kit looks to be everything we have come to expect from Eduard with delicately rendered features, petite surface
detail including stunning rivets, a whole raft of set-up options, plenty of weapons and those four, well-chosen colour schemes. Without the kit to hand, we can offer no
more in the way of opinion with regards to accuracy, or how the kit goes together, so we will wait until a sample arrives on our desk, before commenting further!

LITTLE FRIENDS SAY HELLO, AS BOTH EDUARD AND TAMIYA ANNOUNCE WWII
AMERICAN FIGHTER KITS...
This month sees two of the world’s best model kit manufacturers release details of their imminently available new aircraft aircraft kits, both of which replicate famous
American machines: Eduard with their 1:48 P-51D Mustang and Tamiya with their rumoured, but now confi rmed, 1:48 P-38 Lightning. Given their reputations for quality
products, both of these new offerings will be welcomed by a modelling world keen to build aircraft that are as attractive as they are famous. Eduard’s P-51D of course
enters a rather crowded fi eld, but given the excellence of their family of Spitfi res and latterly, their Me Bf109s in this scale, we are in little doubt that they are likely to
hit the number one spot with their levels of fi nesse, detail and accuracy. Certainly, if the detail that is seen below in the images grabbed from their Facebook page is
anything to go by, the results look likely to be spectacular.
Tamiya’s P-38 is another very welcome kit. With only a handful of kits of this aircraft available in this scale, and some tricky construction along the way from many of
them, the thrill of seeing how the master of simple construction, Tamiya, translate the famous shape of the Lightning in a miniature that we will all enjoy building, is
something to savour. As usual with Tamiya the release of images and seemingly test-shots point to an imminent release, so we hope to be able to bring you more detail
on this impressive kit, shortly.
Let’s take a look at each in a little more detail...
