Keep Them Rolling
Following the success of his hard case luggage collection for
Louis Vuitton, Marc Newson once again pushes the boundaries
of travel design with the Horizon Soft rolling luggage. Specially
designed for the modern traveller, the design uses an innovative
outer-shell made of thermo-formed 3D knit, with the goal of
maximizing interior volume while minimizing weight. The result is
an incredibly lightweight and eye-catching double-sided jacquard
featuring Newson’s interpretation of Louis Vuitton’s Monogram.
The knit is fully-fashioned in a custom made technical yarn that
includes elastic and thermo-fusible threads, using seamless knitting
technology. Lightweight, strong and resistant, each cabin-size
lugagge piece weighs no more than 2.9 kilos. Like Horizon, the
anodized aluminum extendable cane has been relocated outside of the
luggage, adding both structure and strength, as well as substantially
increasing important packing space, removing the awkward bumps
and ridges. The collection has two type of luggage: The Rolling
Duffle 55 Knit with two wheels that comes in yellow, orange, grey
heather, black and Monogram and the Soft Trolley with four wheels
that comes in fuchsia, heather gray and black.
Saddle Up
Artistic Director of Dior
men’s collection, Kim Jones, has
reinterpreted the emblematic
Saddle bag for the winter
2019/2020 collection. The new
Saddle is a line of nylon accessories
that composed of various designs
inspired by the original icon. The
bag was designed by the House in
1999 as homage to the equestrian
world and now has been revisited
in a cross-body version with a
matching strap, to be worn over the
shoulders or around the waist.
The Saddle also lends its curves to
the pocket of a backpack in quilted
nylon and embroidered with the
cannage motif that Christian Dior
loved. Embodying a utilitarian and
sportswear spirit, these light pieces
are embellished with the buckle
designed by Matthew Williams,
the creative director of 1017 ALYX
9SM. Combining the luminosity of
silk satin with the shine of technical
materials, they also reflect the
contemporary elegance Kim Jones
has brought to the new Dior man.
