substantial modification to
accept the assembled flap
housings, which initially
necessitated removing the
integrally moulded styrene items.
It transpired there was insufficient
room within the cavities to
accommodate the assembled PE
units, so deep channels were cut
to ensure they would fit correctly.
This was a time-consuming
task, and involved drill-mounted
sanders, chisels, sanding blocks
and finally the flat-edge of a fresh
scalpel blade to achieve a smooth
finish. The remaining styrene
was paper-thin in places, though
both wings remained structurally
robust. While the associated bays
were secured prior to the wings
being closed, the flaps would not
be mounted until the very end of
the build, to avoid damage.

 Recesses were cut into the lower wing halves to ensure the flap housings would fit. Having
used chisels, sanding blocks and files to scrape the plastic, what remained was paper thin.

 Eduard’s resin undercarriage bay was a simple drop-in replacement. It was painted in situ
to prevent the loss of any of the tiny resin and PE components.

 Dry-fitting was essential to ensure there was sufficient space within the wings for the substantial metal flap-housing sub-assemblies.
A lot of work was necessary before they would join comfortably.

SBS Model’s resin cockpit was partially
assembled before receiving Alclad’s Grey
Primer and Microfiller, followed by the
same firm’s Polished Aluminium.
