SMALL PONDS
Why do/did you like living there?
I love the fact that I can head out
my front door and discover that
my Scandinavian neighbour has
groomed me a ski trail that will take
me on an epic adventure for the
morning. I love that I can still drink
the water and eat the fish from most
of the lakes that surround us. I love
that my First Nation neighbours
make our area rich with culture
and that reconciliation is alive and
happening amongst our people.
I love that I can harvest a good
portion of the food our family needs
to survive for the year right here
within a 20 km radius. I love our
trail network and the dreamers and
doers that invest thousands of hours
to build and maintain them. I love
the freedom! We have the big-sky
feeling, and from certain elevated
points, you can see all of the
surrounding mountain ranges.
What else do you want people to
know about this place?
Burns Lake and the Lakes District is
home to six local First Nations: Ts’il
Kaz Koh, Cheslatta Carrier, Lake
Babine, Nee Tahi Buhn, Skin Tyee,
and Wet’suwet’en.
Last words?
I have been around the world
and seen a lot of places. Nothing
compares to coming home to this
vibrant and alive community full of
loving and caring people who’ve
got your back any time of the week.
I love the two-finger steering-wheel
wave, which is what every person I
pass gets as I travel from the farm
to town and back again.
