Ben Heppner is a renowned
operatic tenor, public advocate
for the arts, and radio broadcaster.
For almost three decades,
Heppner has been among the most
sought-after musical talents in the
operatic world.
Born in Dawson Creek, British
Columbia, Heppner went on to
win the CBC Talent Festival
in 1979 and subsequently the
Metropolitan Opera auditions in


  1. His career has taken him
    from Vienna to Paris, Berlin,
    London, New York and beyond.


Heppner has won three Junos,
three Grammys and nine honorary
doctorates. He is a recipient of the
Governor General’s Performing
Arts Award. In 2008, he was
promoted to companion of the
Order of Canada, and in 2016,
he received a GGPA A Lifetime
Artistic Achievement Award.
These days, Heppner brings
his voice to the airwaves of CBC
Radio as the new host of Saturday
Afternoon at the Opera and
Backstage with Ben Heppner. He
