  1. Repeat Step 1, page 79, using one
    off-white print 2×21" strip and one
    second orange print 2×21" strip to
    make an orange B strip set. Repeat
    to make six orange B strip sets total.
    Cut strip sets into eighteen 6^1 ⁄ 2 "-wide
    orange B side units (you will use 16).

  2. Using remaining off-white print
    2 ×21" strips and light brown floral
    2 ×21" strips, repeat Step 1 to make
    three light brown C strip sets. Cut
    strips sets into nine 6^1 ⁄ 2 "-wide light
    brown C side units (you will use eight).


ASSEMBLE BLOCK A


  1. Use a pencil to mark a diagonal line
    on the wrong side of each off-white
    print 2^7 ⁄ 8 " square.

  2. Referring to Assemble Large
    Triangle-Squares, Step 2, page 78,
    use a marked off-white print square
    and a brown print or floral 2^7 ⁄ 8 "
    square to make two brown medium
    triangle-squares (Diagram 3). Each
    triangle-square should be 2^1 ⁄ 2 " square
    including seam allowances. Repeat to
    make four brown medium triangle-
    squares total.

  3. Using red polka dot, orange print,
    and dark gold print 2^7 ⁄ 8 " squares,
    repeat Step 1 to make four red medium
    triangle-squares, 12 orange medium
    triangle-squares, and four dark gold
    medium triangle-squares.

  4. Use a pencil to draw a diagonal line
    on the wrong side of each off-white
    print 2^1 ⁄ 4 " square.

  5. Align a marked off-white print
    square with one corner of a brown
    dot 2^1 ⁄ 2 " square (Diagram 4). Stitch


on marked line; trim seam allowance
to^1 ⁄ 4 ". Press open attached triangle.
Add a second marked off-white print
square to opposite corner of brown dot
square to make a stem unit. The stem
unit should be 2^1 ⁄ 2 " square including
seam allowances. Repeat to make six
stem units total.


  1. Referring to Diagram 5, lay out
    four brown medium triangle-squares,
    one off-white print 2^1 ⁄ 2 " square, three
    brown print or floral 2^1 ⁄ 2 " squares,
    and one stem unit in three rows. Join
    pieces in rows. Join rows to make
    a brown Maple Leaf unit. The unit
    should be 6^1 ⁄ 2 " square including seam
    allowances.
    7. Using red polka dot, orange print,
    and dark gold print 2^1 ⁄ 2 " squares and
    complementary medium triangle-
    squares, repeat Step 5 to make one red
    Maple Leaf unit, three orange Maple
    Leaf units, and one dark gold Maple
    Leaf unit.
    8. Referring to Diagram 6, sew
    orange A side units to opposite edges
    of brown Maple Leaf unit. Join red
    large triangle-squares to ends of two
    orange A side units; sew to remaining
    edges to make Block A. The block
    should be 12^1 ⁄ 2 " square including seam
    allowances.
