Comprised of two pyramid-capped volumes,
unfolding down a steep Mt Cook site, this
clever home champions light, materiality and
connectedness. Open living spaces allow for
the inevitable overflow of busy family life.

What’schanged?Thehouseis nowfullto
thebrimwiththearrivalofa newbaby.Every
roomis workinghard.Thegardenhasgrown
andnowprovidesa reallybeautifulbackdrop
tothecourtyard.Andthere’sanamazing
Hoogaoutdoorfireplace.It’sa greataddition
tothecourtyard– theperfectspotforan
eveningyarn.
Anyplansorprojectsforthefuture?I think
it’sfairtosaythey’vecaughtthebuildingbug.
We’vegota coupleofotherexcitingprojects
underwaywiththemcurrently.
Whydoyouthinkit works?Themost
successfulthingabouttheschemeis the
waywesitedthetwomainformsaround
thecentralcourtyard.Theinternalfloorarea
is compactbutthegenerousglazingand
overhangingroofreallyextendtheliving
intothisspace.
Thehousealsobalancesprivacyandviews
reallywell.Yougetthisreallynicesunny
internalviewtothecourtyardwiththefull-
heightglazing,buttothestreetwe’veraised
thesillheightrightuptoprovideprivacy
withoutlosingthedistantviewsofMtVictoria
andthetownbelt.
