Making Half-square Triangle units
MakingQuarter-squareTriangleunits
This is an accurate way of making squares
from two triangles, without having to cut
the triangles first and then stitching on
cut bias edges. The precise results it yields
are especially useful when working with
small pieces.
1
Using a light and a dark square of the
given sizes, draw a diagonal line corner
to corner on the back of the light square,
with a fine sharp pencil.
2
Place
the two
(2) squares
right sides
together
and stitch in
away from thelinealongeitherside.
3
Cut along the drawn line and press the
seams open. You will now have two (2)
Half-square Triangle (HST) units.
This is an accurate way of making squares from four triangles of two di erent fabrics,
avoiding stitching on cut bias edges.
1
Proceed in the same way as the HST units.
2
Take one of the units and draw another
diagonal line, corner to corner, on the
wrong side perpendicular to the seam.
3
Place the two (2) units back together right
sides facing with the opposite colours
matching. Pin to ensure that the seams meet
neatly in the middle. Stitch again in away
from each side of the drawn line.
4
Cut along the line and press the seams
open. You now have two (2) QST units.
