timate lap and passed Kelly on
the brakes at Clubhouse Corner
to secure third. Kelly crossed the
finish line in fourth. PJ Jacobsen
struggled on his Celtic HSBK Rac-
ing Yamaha YZF-R6 and ended
up fifth. Tuned Racing Yamaha’s
Bryce Prince (sixth), MP13 Racing
Yamaha’s Josh Hayes (seventh),
Graves Kawasaki’s Braeden Ortt
(eighth), Gillim’s teammate Nick
McFadden (ninth), and Altus Mo-
torsports Suzuki’s Lucas Silva
(10th) completed the top 10.

Supersport Race Two

Gillim and Fong held an en-
tertaining rematch in Race Two.
Starting from pole position be-
cause he turned the fastest lap in
Race One, Fong again got the hole-
shot, but at the end of the first lap
Gillim stuffed underneath Fong in
the final corner, took the lead, and
then gave a wave of his left hand
as if to say “Sorry.”
Gillim led from there while
Fong pressured him. Gillim was
strong on the brakes, so moves
in the obvious passing zones at
Turn One and Clubhouse Corner
weren’t going to work. But Fong
kept showing Gillim his front
wheel at every opportunity, and
on lap 15 of 19, Fong got a drive
on Gillim in the short run from the
last corner to the start/finish line
but didn't pass him.
Gillim said he knew Fong was
going to make a move on the final
lap, but didn’t know where, so he
rode defensive lines, including
into the final corner. Gillim’s tight
line into “Release” caused him to
spin up on the exit. Fong, mean-
while, lined up the move he had
tried earlier, got a good drive out
of the final corner, and beat Gillim
to the finish line by 0.003-second.
"We have such good acceler-
ation with the Suzuki GSX-R600,
I knew if he ran tight in the last
corner I could get a drive on him,”
said Fong. “I had that in my mind
the entire race and was sizing it
up. I figured he would run a de-
fensive line on the last lap, and I
worked my strategy just right.”
Kelly was third and inching
away from Jacobsen and Prince
when on lap 18 Kelly’s Suzuki
broke an aluminum valve spring
retainer that caused it to lose
power at high rpm; Kelly started
short-shifting, allowing both Ja-
cobsen and Prince to come past
and snag third and fourth places,
respectively. Kelly salvaged fifth
place.
Escalante came back from an
off-track excursion to finish sixth,
Hayes ended a tough weekend
with seventh, Jason Aguilar was
eighth on his RiderzLaw Yamaha,
McFadden was ninth, and Silva
recorded another top-10 finish.

Liqui Moly Junior Cup

Quarterley Racing/On Track
Development Kawasaki’s 16-year-
old Dallas Daniel got a huge jump
on the field at the start of Race
One and had a 1.0-second lead
after the first of eight laps. But
14-year-old Rocco Landers, who
said he missed a shift during the
start, used his Ninja400R.com/
Norton Motorsports/Dr. Farr Rac-
ing Kawasaki to catch up to Dan-
iels and pass him into Turn One on
lap five. Daniels put in a spirited
challenge at the end, but Landers
took his sixth victory of 2019 by
0.142-second. Altus Motorsports
Kawasaki’s Kevin Olmedo got the
better of Burleson Racing Kawasa-
ki’s Isiah Burleson for third.
Daniels got another strong
start in Race Two, but this time
Landers was right behind him
into Turn One and took over first
place in Turn Six on the opening
lap. Daniels studied Landers for a
few laps and then dived under his
rival on the brakes at Clubhouse
Corner to retake the lead. Land-
ers ran behind Daniels until the
final lap, but was unable to repass
Daniels, who took his first win in
MotoAmerica. With Daniels and
Landers each taking a win and a
second-place, Landers’ lead in the
standings remained at 21 points
after eight of 17 races. Olmedo was
close behind Daniels and Landers
early in the race but after a big
slide he lost touch with the lead
duo and took a lonely third-place.

Twins Cup

After technical problems and
injuries caused him to have a
slow start to his rookie season in
Twins Cup, 16-year-old Alex Du-
mas rode flawlessly to take a flag-
to-flag victory on his Roadracing
World Young Guns Suzuki SV650.
Dumas, the 2018 Moto America
Junior Cup Champion, won the
13-lap race by over 14 seconds.
Michael Barnes got a slow
start on his Quarterley Racing
Ducati Monster 797, got to with-
in 1.5 seconds of Dumas, and
matched the leader’s pace for sev-
eral laps. But Barnes said he was
at the limit and decided to settle
for second place and increasing
his Championship lead from three
to 11 points after five of 11 races.
Team AP MotoArts Yama-
ha’s Cooper McDonald turned lap
times 1.5 seconds faster than his
best qualifying lap to go from 10th
on the grid to third, earning his
career-first MotoAmerica podium
finish. Autovest Suzuki’s Joseph
Blasius battled with McDonald to
the end but came up 0.7-second
short in fourth. Draik Beauchamp,
race winner at Road America, came

from 12th on the grid to score fifth
on his AP MotoArts Yamaha FZ-

  1. Notable non-finishers included
    RiderzLaw Racing Suzuki’s Kris
    Turner, who crashed after passing
Blasius for second on the first lap,
    and defending Champion Chris
    Parrish, who highsided his Ghetto
    Customs Suzuki SV650 while rac-
ing for a podium spot on lap eight.

Stock 1000

Defending Stock 1000 Cham-
pion Andrew Lee gained an early
advantage on his Franklin Ar-
mory/Graves Kawasaki ZX-10R.

But veteran Geoff May, riding his
Ameris Bank Kawasaki ZX-10R,
passed Lee in Turn Six to capture
the lead on lap one. May set the
pace for the first seven laps, un-
til on lap eight, Lee snuck under-
neath May braking into Turn One
to take over first place.
Once in front, Lee pulled
away from May and won the 14-
lap race, his second of the season,
by 2.958 seconds. In the process,
Lee took the Stock 1000 Champi-
onship points lead after five of 11
races. May finished second despite
chatter problems. Stefano Mesa,
the points leader coming into the
race, pulled away from the rest to
finish third on his Mesa 37 Racing
Kawasaki ZX-10RR. Weir Every-
where Racing BMW’s Travis Wy-
man finished fourth, and Michael
Gilbert was fifth on his Team Nor-
ris Racing Kawasaki ZX-10R.
