Unfortunately, this year, too, the event had to record the fatal crash
of the Englishman, Daley Mathison.
Daley Mathison was a young but experienced rider at the TT. He had been on the
podium in the Zero TT races for the past three years, his best result being a second place in- Mathison had set a lap at 119.294 mph (191.985 km/h) in the Zero TT, the second
fastest ever.
Having made his début in the Mountain Course in 2013 for the Manx Grand Prix
Newcomers A Race, he finished fifth, which started him off on his professional road racing
career. Daley took part in 19 TT races and scored 14 finishes with three podiums. He also
won six silver and eight bronze replicas in his career.
The 27-year-old racer was killed in an incident that occurred on the third lap of the
Superbike race. We, at Bike India, mourn the loss of yet another motorcycling star and offer
our heartfelt condolences to his family and dear ones.
T
he Superstock class comprises 1,000-cc
production sports bikes that have high
restrictions on modifications. Some modification
can be made for safety reasons, but not to the
engine, frame, and electronics.
This class is a big hit among manufacturers, for,
due to the restriction, it really showcases the
motorcycle you can actually buy at a showroom.
Once again, it was Peter Hickman on the
Smiths Racing BMW and Dean Harrison on his
Silicone Engineering Kawasaki that went toe to
toe. However, an absolutely flawless performance
saw Peter Hickman claim victory and even pop a
wheelie while at it. Dean Harrison took second
and even though he was one mile per hour slower
than Hickman, the Kawasaki rider was blitzing
past everyone else. So much so that at one point
fifth-place finisher Connor Cummins on the
Milenco by Padgett’s Motorcycles Honda had to
get off the racing line and allow Harrison to pass
due to the Kawasaki rider’s faster pace.
The real battle of the RL360 Superstock was for
the final place on the podium between Michael
Dunlop and the MD Racing BMW and Honda
Racing’s David Johnson. The two riders had
fractions of a second that separated them and
which they chopped and changed places
throughout the race. Finally, it was David Johnson
who pipped Michael Dunlop and won third place.RSL SUPERSTOCK
