Sven Frisch builds a Paper Panther: a fictional design of the backbone

A

dmittedly, until recently, I was not a huge

fan of the so called 'what-if?' genre of AFV

modelling. For various reasons, I like to

stick to the facts and to a reasonable level

of historical accuracy. However, 'paper-panzers'

offer a lot of room for creativity and have few – if

any – restrictions. So, when finally having a go on

a paper-panzer, I decided to build a model which

could have been a predecessor of the Panther G/F,

had the Second World War lasted a few years

longer, which thankfully, it did not!

The other reason for trying out a fictional

subject was the chance to work with some

conversion sets from Paper Panzer Productions,

an aftermarket company that has a reputation

for high-quality conversion kits. PPP from Belgium

caters modellers with a special interest in the

design and development of special and unusual

armoured vehicles and weaponry.

These are mainly special developments during

World War II, such as late war vehicles and

paper-panzers which – if at all – existed only on

the drawing board. PPP also offers prototypes and

hypothetical subjects, to the delight of 'Panzerwaffe
