I basically refuse to get up before 7am, unless
I’m travelling. I go to bed around midnight so
any earlier than that means serious eye bags.
An old-school alarm clock wakes me, as my
husband and I went digital-free in the bedroom
a couple of years ago; scrolling mindlessly
through your phone first and last thing is never
going to be good for you.
Once I’ve dragged myself out from under
the duvet (usually after two, maybe three...
OK, four snoozes) I switch on Radio 4, down a
glass of water and my husband’s leftover coffee,
and do a very quick dry body brush to help
my skin glow f rom head to toe. Then I hop in t he
shower – I like it inhumanely hot – and lather up
wit h a body wash t hat has an invigorating scent,
like Imperial Leather Foamburst. Even though
I have a lot of hair, I wash it every day, as I don’t
feel properly clean without full submersion.
I check my emails while I brush my teeth
(multitasking means more minutes in bed) h
attempt to feed the dog, although he u
turns his nose up at breakfast and pre
chase squirrels in the garden. The sk
starts at my dressing table: toner to rehy
antioxidant serum, hydrating serum, m
ALWAYS SPF. I’m a skincare junkie.
I don’t wear a ton of make-up, as
airless of fice it will just slip of f, so it’s us
tinted moisturiser base, concealer wh
needed and a dusting of bronzer. Brush
brows, a slick of mascara and some lip
finish off my daily look. On a good d
blow - dr y my hair to per fection using an e
hot brush, which – no joke – has chang
life. On a day when I’ve hit snooze eigh
I scrunch in a bit of curl cream to weigh
the frizz and hope for the best. A slather o
moisturiser, a spritz of scent and hair pe
(believe me, it’s a thing) and I’m good

a business can be hectic, so the app helps to
ground me and clear my mind, even if it’s just for
five minutes before I get to the office. Breakfast
can wait until I’m in work; I rarely eat at home.
I usually have some fruit and a croissant at my
desk to fuel me up.
I work hard and struggle to maintain a
regular routine, but it’s important to take the
time to pamper myself. I’m trying to schedule
more self-love into my day, whether that’s by
going for a swim first thing or jogging once a
week to get some headspace. It’s something
I’m working on.

ELLE’s Beauty Editor reveals the
products she wakes up with
For me, mornings are all about the ‘power
hour’. A couple of years ago, I made the
choice to wake up at 5.30am to give myself
extra time to start my day in the way I want to. It
allows me 60 minutes to focus on me, whether
t hat ’s jogging, st retching or doing breat hwor k.
I’m not good at sitting still, so movement
is my meditation. I find the rhythm of running
is cathartic and lifts my mood, whether I want
to de-stress or feel energised. Even when
travelling, I’m up early to see the area before
anyone is awake. Running past t he Ber lin Wall
or the Eiffel Tower at 6am is just magical.
I tend to avoid social media in the morning
because it can become all-consuming, but
I am a podcast junkie. As I run, I like to listen
to inspirational podcasts like How I Built This
to get my brain in gear as well as my body.
When I get home, I’ll put on some energising
music that I can sing along to, like the Spice
Girls. I’ll have a shower and always splash
my face with cold water for a refreshing boost.
I love using natural oils to give myself a quick
facial, too. By that time, my son is awake and
I’m ready to give him my full attention.
With a busy schedule and a young son,
it’s important to create time for myself to
recharge. Waking up early means I’ve
reclaimed my own time and have a more
indulgent start to the day. It’s a life-changer.
