Let it shine UV protection is
often overlooked when flying, but
according to A-list facialist Debbie
Thomas, ‘If you are anywhere near
the window in daylight, SPF is
crucial, as, up in the sky, the
atmosphere doesn’t block as many
of the sun’s rays.’ Eucerin’s 50+
Pigment Control (£20) is excellent,
while Lancaster’s Illuminating
Cream (£30) is perfect for those
who are after high protection and
a glowing complexion.
High & dry ‘Our skin is most
comfortable with air humidity of
about 40-70 per cent,’ explains
Sarah Chapman, facialist to the
Duchess of Sussex, who adds that
‘humidity falls to about 20 per cent
in an aircraft, so your skin can
become extremely dehydrated
when flying.’ To combat the effects
of cabin air, it’s essential to stay
moisturised. Designed with
long-haul flights in mind, Sarah
Chapman’s Intense Hydrating
Booster (£64) both nourishes and
helps ward off bacteria. Victoria
Beckham looks to Skinade’s
collagen drink (£105), while Margot
Robbie pairs Aesop’s Immediate
Moisture Facial Hydrosol (£17) with
Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir (£12). Avoid
alcohol, caffeine and salty, processed
foods preflight. If teetotal travel is a
no-no, Dr Frances Prenna Jones
recommends drinking four glasses
of water for every glass of alcohol.
Keep calm There are myriad elixirs
to ease flying anxiety. Therapie’s
Calming Balm (£38) blends
soothing lavender, neroli and
sandalwood, while Aromatherapy
Associates’ Inner Strength rollerball
(£49) uses clary sage and
frankincense to boost positivity.
Take a leaf out of Jessica Chastain’s
book and spritz a little rosewater to
quell travelling nerves – Jurlique’s
Rosewater Balancing Mist (£30)
is particularly refreshing.
Clean air Though unpleasant to
contemplate, recycled air on planes
is often thick with germs and
bacteria. It’s why the Duchess of

Sussex insists on disinfecting her
space: ‘When I get on a plane I
always use hand wipes or a travel
sanitiser spray to wipe it all down,’
she wrote on her now-defunct
lifestyle blog, The Tig. Gwyneth
Paltrow is a fan of Aesop’s
Resurrection Rinse-Free Hand
Wash (£7). Natural skincare brand
Mamiel’s Altitude Oil (£30) is a
carry-on must; it’s antibacterial and
antiviral so a few drops dabbed
under the nose helps ward off germs.
Mask it Masking in public is finally
acceptable thanks to the likes of
Bella Hadid and Kaia Gerber,
who proudly Instagram their
face-masking efforts. The product
du jour? Summer Fridays’ Jet Lag
Mask (£42), a heavenly concoction
of chestnut extract and shea butter
adored by Kim Kardashian West and
Jessica Alba. Particularly good for
speeding through security sans
liquids is the Charlotte Tilbury Instant
Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask.
Swipe right For those wanting to
go totally liquid free, there’s a stick
for every skincare phase. To
cleanse, look to American brand
Milk Makeup’s clever Matcha
Cleanser (£22). For a stick-form
toner, use We are Wild’s Solid Water
Probiotic Toner (£22), and for an
ultra-decadent face oil, Rodin’s
Jasmin & Neroli (£55) is glorious.
