What CoolMini with Dr Selena

The low-down Double chins are
notoriously hard to treat: or at least
they were, before CoolMini came
along. The younger sibling of the
acclaimed CoolSculpting machine,
it works via the same technology: a
gradual freezing of fat cells, which
causes apoptosis (or ‘cell death’),
leading to their evacuation via the
lymphatic system. The CoolMini
latches on to wobbly tissue beneath
the chin, which is grasped by the
small, suctioning treatment head. It
remains there for the next 45–90
minutes, the temperature in the fat
cells cooling to an icy -11°C.
Pain factor The area numbs
quickly, so sensation is minimal,
but the massage after the applicator
has been removed (to break down
the crystallised fat cells) might
make you squirm.
Downtime Barely any – at worst,
the area will be a little pink and feel
a tiny bit bruised.
Results There’s not much to report
for the first few weeks, but in three
months the breakthrough comes,
with a distinct tightening of the chin
area (a second session often helps
to refine heavier-set jowls). Once
destroyed, the fat cells don’t return.

What Tear-trough filler with
Dr Maryam Zamani
The low-down Dark under-eye
circles are the nemesis of any bride.
But whether it’s volume depletion
or puffiness that’s causing sockets to
look shadowy, filler can help.
Dr Maryam Zamani is a whizz with
tear troughs (the semicircular
boundary between the eye and the
cheek) and her way with a cannula
can refresh tired-looking eyes with-
out surgery (though Zamani can do
that too – in fact, her lower-lid
blepharoplasties are immaculate).
She spreads the filler (JuvédermVolift is her preference) carefully,
the cannula enabling her to reach
the length of the tear trough from a
single insertion point. A light, lym-
phatic massage to the area helps the
filler settle – and you’re done in
roughly 10 minutes.
Pain factor The filler contains lido-
caine, an anaesthetic, so numbing
cream isn’t necessary. Expect the eye
area to feel slightly tender for the
following few days, however.
Downtime The under-eye area can
swell, so Zamani recommends you
take an antihistamine straight after
the procedure. No steam rooms,
massage or facials for one week, and
if bruising occurs (it rarely does)
wait for a few days before going
back to the gym.
Results Instantly the eye area looks
refreshed: like you’ve had a good
night’s sleep or been away.

What Cristal Cryolipolysis with
Dr Galyna Selezneva
The low-down Cristal, the latest
body-shaping device to land, gives
spectacular results. What makes it
different to other fat-freezing devices
is its capacity for personalisation:
from the treatment time (60–75
minutes), to the temperature (down
to an icy -8°C) and the intensity
(how quickly it cools). Then there’s
the treatment heads (11 in total,
some that employ suction, others
that resemble cold metal plates),
which slim and sculpt even tricky-
to-tackle areas. Upper arms, love
handles, tummies and thighs can all
be treated in one to two cycles. Fat
cells are broken down by freezing and
eliminated via the lymphatic system.
Pain factor It doesn’t hurt, though
it can feel peculiar. But once the cold
sets in, you won’t feel a thing – until
the area is massaged back to life...Downtime A little redness, some
swelling – but in a day or two things
will have returned to normal. An
indescribable itching as the thaw
sets in isn’t unusual.
Results Not much at first – you’ll
likely forget about having had the

What Injectables with Dr Tracy
Mountford
The low-down Do fine lines across
your forehead bother you? Does your
reflection appear sad, cross or tired?
If so, injectables might help. Book
in to see Dr Tracy Mountford, who
will subtly replace lost volume us-ing a hyaluronic acid-based filler.
The gel-like substance can replace
lost tissue in the temples, cheeks,
lower face and lips (treatment might
be staged over one to three sessions).
The final flourish is a strategic scat-
tering of Botox, perhaps around the

muscle activity causes fine lines to
become deeper.
Pain factor The filler is uncomfort-
able but not painful (an anaesthetic
cream can be applied to dull the
sensation beforehand). The Botox
feels like short, swift pinpricks.
Downtime A dull ache immedi-
ately after treatment isn’t unusual;
neither is a tiny bit of swelling the
next day. The Botox needle entry
point might bruise, but only if
you’re unlucky.
Results The effect of the filler is im-
mediate – exhaustion is wiped away.
The Botox kicks in about five to
seven days later, bringing smooth-

What MiraDry Fresh
The low-down MiraDry made
waves when it launched, thanks to
its sweat-eliminating powers – im-
mensely helpful for those suffering
from wedding nerves. And the
second-generation MiraDry Fresh
promises even greater efficacy. Local
anaesthetic numbs the underarms,
which are then marked in a grid-
like fashion. With the applicator in
position, thermal energy targets the
sweat glands, which are effectively
nuked, decreasing their activity. It
takes up to one hour to treat both
underarms, then you’re good to go.
Pain factor Far less wince-worthy
than the original. There’s still a fair
bit of local anaesthetic to be admin-
istered, but an innovative application
‘plate’, which evenly distributes it
via tiny needles, means constant
jabs are no longer needed.
Downtime Immediately afterwards,
underarms are swollen – you’ll feel
like you have golf balls under them.
After a few days the worst dies down.
Results Impressive: sweat-gland
activity is reduced by 82 per cent,
odour by 89 per cent. So even the
most anxious of sufferers can consign
their industrial-strength deodorant
