A large marketplace
Many visitors (the majority in the first few
days) come from near and far to this important
ten-day festival. The Kaboku Centre, where the
exhibition takes place, is a bit outside the city
centre, but can easily be reached by bus or taxi.
The entrance was well signposted with panels
and posters. Admission for visitors to these exhi-
bitions is usually free.
The exhibition was held in a large market place
transformed into a display area where the most
beautiful satsuki were displayed. Some display
areas were covered to protect the trees from the
sun and rain.
All around, were shops and traders of every
kind offering different materials, stands, tables,
wooden slabs, books on the care of satsuki, as
well as drinks and snacks. Elsewhere in the ex-
hibition grounds was a display of lanterns and
shell art.

Specialist shops and food stands abound.

Satsuki that were not very well were planted in a separate
