ack in February 2019, we ran the Umarex
range at the British Shooting Show, when
Umarex showcased some new rifles. One of
them was the Walther Rotex RM8 Varmint UC,
a bit of a mouthful, but the original models are
fondly known as RM8s.
At the show we were so busy with all the
other rifles and the general public that we
didn’t have a chance to get a closer look at the
Varmint UC. UC stands for ‘Ultra Compact’,

plus there are a few other features that make it
different to the standard Varmint. It is
somewhat shorter than the original at 916mm
in length, including a K3 Neo Silencer that
comes as standard, compared to 1040mm
without a silencer on the original, although the
stock length remains the same. They’re both
thumbhole, black polymer-type rifles, with a
raised contoured cheek piece on both sides,
but I prefer the look of the RM8 Varmint UC

and I like how the silencer fits close to the air
cylinder because it sets that ‘Compact’ look.
There’s a chequered, swirled pistol grip, and
a slightly bulged chequered, swirled forestock,
which works well because you can get a really
good grip and hold on the rifle in any
conditions.
Also, on the stock there is a short Picatinny
rail for your bipods or torches, and underneath
is the filling hole and regulator dial.

Hats off to Umarex with the RM8 UC.
