Sleaford All-Knighters’ rally

Despite the adverse weather forecast, a steady stream

of riders turned up at Sleaford Rugby Club from Friday

onwards. This is the third time the club has held its rally

at this location and club members at the control tent

did a great job whilst being helped by ‘Nicky’, our ‘Happy

Chappy’. Considering the amount of rain recently, the field

held up very well.

S

aturday morning, the sun shone – very
welcome after the previous day’s rain.
One young trainee scooterist had a
miniature electric scooter – first class – and
he could certainly shift on it; he was really
enjoying himself. A well-supported rideout
was organised to Heckington Windmill,
where the Miller’s Tea House serves light
snacks, and there’s also a brewery on site.
The windmill itself is of considerable interest,
in that it’s the only working eight-sailed
windmill in the country.
Talking to the owner of a Vespa sidecar
combination that turned up at the rally,
he’d had it for about 20 years and was very
pleased with it. He originally got the sidecar so
he could take his young son for rides. While I
was chatting to this chap, the BBMF Lancaster
bomber flew low over the rally field – those
Merlin engines do sound good!
Later on the custom show judging took
place, with David Brown having the difficult job
of picking the class-winning scooters. ‘Best

Club’ award went to Dirty Mills SC, whilst DJs
Ray and Paul kept the music going. On-site
games included ‘Space Hopper Racing’ –
hilarious to watch, but not as easy to do as
you’d think. Other games included the ‘Crash
Helmet Putt’ and ‘Motorcycle Boot Whanging’.
All games were great fun and well supported.
The on-site traders kindly donated some
prizes for the raffle, which was held during the
Saturday evening. There was also a great mix
of music provided by the three DJs, plus more
great bands, the final one being Not Quite
Geoff, and they were fantastic. What a brilliant
finish to a great weekend!
Thanks to everyone for turning up. Without
you there would not have been a rally. Well
done also to the All-Knighters team for all their
efforts over the weekend.
Our next event is the fifth ‘Happy Chappy’
rideout (details: http://www.allknighterssc.co.uk).
This popular event will be held on September
15, so put it in your diary!
