C & H WESTON – A BRIEF HISTORY

In 1765, Abraham Weston opened his

clockmaker/gunsmiths shop in Lewes, East

Sussex. Following this, in 1819, another

member of the Weston family opened the

doors to their first gun shop in New Road,

Brighton, opposite the Royal Pavilion. The

Prince Regent purchased items from

Weston’s gun shop and they were given

Royal Patronage.

In those days, Weston’s were gunmakers

and athletic outfitters, making such items

as ice skates as well as shotguns and rifles.

In 1982, Jack Wood from FA Anderson,

opened his first gun shop in Brighton and

Ivan Mather and Jack’s son, John, worked

in the shop where it is currently situated at

12 East Street, Brighton.

In 1992, Ivan and John purchased

Weston’s from Jack Wood, and Ivan

subsequently became the sole owner of the

business, as he is to this present day,

supported by the shop manager, Howard,

and assisted by Mick and Dave.

Weston’s specialise in a wide variety of

airguns and also stock a great selection of

antiques, modern shotguns, rifles and

ammunition.
