Tragic mum, 32,
saves four lives
after her death
pay for her funeral and to support her
two boys, has so far raised £6,
towards the £10,000 target.
Krystal, of Dartford, Kent, suffered
from diabetes and needed a kidney and
pancreas transplant but could not be
saved, said friend Jaki Karrata.
Jaki, 52, an NHS worker, said: “It was
her wish if she couldn’t be helped, she
would help others. Selfless to the end.
“She was a single mum who couldn’t
work because of ill health. She was loved
by so many and leaves a huge void in the
hearts of all who knew
and loved her.
“She was really popular
with other parents. Even
though she was on
dialysis, she went to her
sons’ sports day two days
before she died and took them
to the fair the night before.
“The family are devastated. If Tyler
and Leighton inherit her zest for living
they will be truly blessed. For Denise,
her mum, this is the hardest thing
anyone should go through.”
This year, the Mirror
successfully campaigned
to change the law around
organ donation in England
to an “opt-out” system.
Max and Keira’s Law could
save 700 lives a year and in one
of her last acts as PM, Theresa May
hailed it a “momentous step for thou-
sands” in need of a life-saving transplant.

suffered years of ill health, collapsed on
July 12 and died two days later.
Her family, including sons Tyler, 16,
    and five-year-old Leighton, have had
some comfort knowing her liver helped

Kidney cop

has stroke

of golf luck

A POLICE officer with
kidney failure met his
donor on the golf course.
Detective Sergeant
Mark Phillips, 56, was told
he was ill after having a
routine check-up in 2017.
The Scotland Yard
officer began dialysis last
January after his kidney
function dropped to 8%.
Three months later his
partner Irene Hearn, 60,
bumped into pal Graham
Sutherland at Sene Valley
Golf Club in Hythe, Kent.
He revealed he was a
living donor. Mark, of
Sidcup, Kent, said: “He
wasn’t a member. It was
an amazing coincidence.”
Graham, 70, of Ashford,
Kent, said: “It’s painful,
but I’m so glad I did it.”
