The Smoking Room, watercolour on Saunders CP Not 140lb
(300gsm), 19¾ 3 23¾in (50 3 60cm).
This is where I pulled the painting together. Shadows were
added across the carpet, walls and furniture in a mixture of
purple, sepia and ultramarine blue to create a sense of light
coming in through the windows. It is this light that makes the
painting come to life and add a three-dimensional look. White
gouache and sepia touches were added to some of the artefacts
to add depth and to pull the painting together
