Powered once more by the brilliant Shakib
Al Hasan (64 runs in 77 balls), Bangladesh
ended on 221 all out. Shakib finished his
tournament with a total of 606 runs from
eight innings, the third highest ever in
World Cup history, behind Sachin (673 in 11
innings) and Hayden (659 in 10). Shakib
averaged 86 runs. He also surpassed Sachin
Tendulkar’s
record of maxi-
mum runs
scored in the
group stages of
the tourna-
ment. The for-
mer Indian
skipper had
accumulated
586 runs in the
group stage of
the World Cup
in 2003.

Bangladesh have parted ways with
coach Steve Rhodes after finishing
eighth at the World Cup. “We came to
a mutual understanding,” Bangladesh
Cricket Board CEO Nizamuddin
Chowdhury told the Daily Star news-
paper. Rhodes was appointed in June
last year, and contracted to coach the
national team until after the 2020 T
World Cup in Australia. Bangladesh
hops of a first World Cup semifinal
appearance were heightened after win-
ning the Irish tri-nations in May for its
first 50-over title. The team was in
contention until the last week of the
group stage, and faded. Bangladesh
lost to all four semifinalists and
Pakistan, and its match against Sri
Lanka was washed out.

PROUD OF MILESTONE
Ikram Ali Khil was not even meant to play in the
2019 Cricket World Cup. But Afghanistani wicket-
keeper, Mohammad Shahzad had fitness issues,
which led to his ouster and inclusion of 18 years
old Ikram in the side. And he made the world take
notice of him when he scored 86 off just 92 balls
against West Indies at Leeds.mHe became the
youngest player (18 years and 278 days) to score
an 80+ score in the history of the World Cup. The
record was previously held by Sachin Tendulkar
who scored 84 against in the 1992 World Cup at
the age of 18 years and 318 days. “I’m very proud
to have broken the record of a legend like
Tendulkar. It makes me very happy,” he said.

It seems controversy surrounding
Sanjay Manjrekar and Ravindra
Jadeja won’t die its natural death.
After days of discussion and taking
sides by fans and former cricketers,
things were finally settling down but
Chennai Super Kings’ entry has ignited the
feud once again. Ravindra Jadeja’s Indian
Premier League franchise, Chennai Super
Kings took to Twitter and posted a cheeky
tweet in support of their player. “We, dear
Sir, love you to bits, to pieces, eight times
round the Moon and back! #WhistlePodu
#SirJaddu #Yellove @imjadeja”, CSK
tweeted.
