A Carrie and Rafe first connected when
she returned to town in 2011. John had
been arrested on embezzlement charges
and Carrie and Rafe teamed up to prove
he was innocent. They were successful in
freeing John so the duo went into busi-
ness together. The close proximity led to
them developing feelings for each other.
They shared their first kiss, but the tim-
ing couldn’t have been worse: Austin and
Sami walked in on them. A devastated
Austin got drunk and went to his office.
Abigail, who was nursing a crush on him,
was there. She kissed him, but he wasn’t
looking for anything romantic with her.
Austin passed out and Abigail took off
her clothes and placed herself next to
him. When Austin woke up, Abigail lied
that they had sex. Austin went to Carrie to
try to work on their marriage, but she was
unsure about her feelings for Rafe. Aus-
tin and Carrie went to Green Mountain
Lodge (where they first made love years
earlier), but Abigail followed them there.
She told Carrie that she and Austin had
slept together. Carrie returned to Salem.
She met up with Rafe and admitted that
she was falling for him. Austin arrived and
overheard. He stormed off. Rafe told Car-rie that he was reluctant to get involved if
there was a chance she and Austin could
work things out. A series of other mis-
understandings followed that prevented
Carrie and Rafe from ever exploring their
feelings. When Carrie discovered she was
pregnant by Austin, she still cared for
Rafe, but reconciled with her husband.
They moved to Switzerland in 2012,
