of NaplesYellowandWhite.I usemyWindsor&

Newtonseries& #2brushforthemaincolourson

theleaves.Fortheveinsandedges,I usea Roymac

3550 GoldenSable 00 brush.

StepTen

Thatcompletesthatlayerof leaves,butI wantto

addanotherlayeroverthetopof that.Todothat

I usethesameprocessof drawingonacetatelaid

overthepainting.

WhenI’mhappywiththenewleafarrangement,I

photocopytheacetateandusethatcopyto transfer

thenewlayerof leavesto thepainting.I wantthese

leavesto comemoreto thefront,soI under-paint

themwithwhite.

WiththesamegreensthatI mixedbeforeI add

anotheroneusingmorewhitemixedwiththe

green,sonowinsteadof threegreencolours,I

havefour.Thewhiteunderlayerallowsmeto add

someof thepaintmorethinlyandallowthewhite

to comethrough,whichwillhelpin bringingthose

leavesforwardof thefirstleaflayer.

FinalStep

Tofinishoff,I addthelegsanda layerof shadow

underthebird.Theshadowis important,asit helps

anchorthebirdto thebranch.
