Squared, associate editor Diane
Tomlinson gravitated to an artistic
collection of prints she had been
admiring. She pieced four blocks
and opted for a straight, rather than
on-point, setting. She framed the
blocks with 1"-wide fi nished sashing
strips and inner border. To complete
the 31½"-square wall hanging, she
added a 3½"-wide fi nished outer
border.

Cut and piece yellow print 4×42"
strips to make:
▫ 2—4× 595 ⁄ 8 " outer border strips
▫ 2—4× 525 ⁄ 8 " outer border strips

Sew short outer border strips to
short edges of quilt center (Quilt
Assembly Diagram). Add long outer
border strips to remaining edges to
complete quilt top. Press all seams
toward outer border.
FINISH QUILT

machine-quilted arcs in the blocks
and sashing squares and a swirling
vine design in the sashing rectangles,
