Thisunderpaintingfeatureswarm
translucentcolorsmadefroma mix
ofultramarineblue,gambogeyellow
andcarmineredlake.Thetranslucency
enablesthesubstrateofbrushedgold
toaffectthecolorandreflectivityof
theimage.

I appliedthepaintandtextures
using3-inchwatercolorwash
brushes.I cuttheultramarinebluewith
titaniumwhitetocreatetheeffectofthe
frostedgrasses.Theskybenefitsfrom
thesubstrateofgold.

Theserpentinechannelofthe
reflectingwaterwasexcisedusing
a 4-inchrubbersqueegee.Opaquepaint
oftitaniumwhitecutwithgamboge
yellowfillsthewaterchannel.I created
moretexturebyusingwatercolorwash
brushesandapplyingpaintalongthe
edgeofthesqueegee.I thenlightly
tappedthesqueegeeontothesurface
tocreatelinesoflightrepresenting
strandsofmarshgrass.
