MINI DEMO: Winter Reeds
12
1
I created a base of gamboge, ultramarine
blue and transparent red oxide using a
3-inch-wide watercolor wash brush, as well
as a 3-inch-wide flat chip brush from the
hardware store.
2
I disturbed the paint slightly by using
the flat side of the brushes. I also
began excising paint with a 6-inch rubber
squeegee to reveal slits of light between the
reeds. The light spaces define the existence
of the reeds.
3
There are small white florets of varying
size peppered throughout the painting.
There’s also further development of striated
snow patterns showing through the reeds to
add greater depth to the scene.
