be added to a gaming subscription service for a
monthly $9.99 fee.


The truth is that there is still a demand for
isolated consoles from Sony or Microsoft,
and the success of the Nintendo Switch has
demonstrated that consoles are far from dead.
Indeed, according to Windows Central, a disc-
less Xbox One All-Digital Edition will release
on May 7 this year, meaning that consumers
will have to purchase their titles from the
Microsoft Store in order to play games. Both
manufacturers are working hard on the next-
generation consoles, rumored for a 2020
release, and demand for Xbox and PlayStation
titles remains strong. But as PCs and online
gaming services continue to innovate and
push forward, services like Steam are becoming
increasingly popular, fueled by the rise of
streaming on sites like Twitch and YouTube
Gaming, creating a new culture of modern
gamers who want to share experiences. On
top of that, popular games house Ubisoft has
said it believes the next-generation PlayStation
and Xbox will be the last, and the move to
streaming will “help the AAA game industry
grow much faster.”


In the coming years, new advanced digital
gaming experiences will likely make the
traditional gaming console model seem
outdated, and manufacturers may even pull
production on their models if demand drops.
The truth is that PlayStation and Xbox have
revolutionized the way we play and enjoy
gaming - but as is often the case, they were too
slow to innovate in their fields, and since their
