Mohamed Salah v Tottenham Hotspur (H)
Premier League (4 February)
Almost 40,000 votes were cast to decide the overall winner and Mohamed
Salah’s brilliant individual dribble and finish in the last minutes of two frantic
Premier League clash with Spurs at Anfield came out on top.
As one of the standout moments of the Egyptian’s remarkable 44-goal debut
season with the Reds, the strike exhibited all of Salah’s predatory abilities. It was
the footballing equivalent of solving a puzzle, especially when you consider the
position he was in when he collected the ball at the right edge of the box and
the number of defenders blocking his route to goal.
However, the no11 shifted left and right to weave his way through the Spurs
backline at speed before instinctively lifting a clever finish over goalkeeper Hugo
Lloris.
The 91st-minute goal was enhanced by the fact Spurs had missed a penalty
three minutes earlier, although they would go on to earn a 2-2 draw thanks to
another spot-kick deep into added-time.
