Activate
Summarise
1
Highlight some text
Select a chunk of text to summarise (or
tap Cmd+A to select all). Then either use the
shortcut combo you created in the main tutorial
or right-click and select Services>Summarise.
2
See the summary
A Summary window will appear. This
displays all of the selected text at first but you
can make adjustments using the slider to
determine how long or short the summary is.
Step-by-step Create a summary shortcut
1
System Preferences
To see the tool which allows you to
summarise documents, you have to first of all
create a keyboard shortcut. Click the Apple
logo top-left and select ‘System Preferences’.
4
Find Summarise
Keep scrolling until you find the option
called ‘Summarise’, ticking the box next to it.
This allows it to appear within the Services
option of an application’s main menu.
2
Open Keyboard
Double-click the Keyboard icon which is
in the third section of System Preferences and
select the ‘Shortcuts’ tab which you’ll see at
the top of the Keyboard options window.
5
Add a shortcut
Select the word ‘none’ found to the right
of the Summarise line to highlight the option.
As you do so, a button called ‘Add Shortcut’
will appear which you can now click.
3
View the video
Click ‘Services’ from the menu options
found to the left. Now scroll down the right-
side pane until you find the ‘Text’ category,
expanding it if isn’t displaying its contents.
6
Create a combo
A white text entry box prompts you to
set a key combination for your shortcut. Try to
come up with something memorable as you
tap two or three keys to create the shortcut.
