If you care not for Apple’s Top Shelf

W
hen Apple decided to
revamp the Home screen
interface of Apple TV with
tvOS 13, it opted to make its own
recommendations a key feature of
the app’s Top Shelf. This allowed it
to promote shows that it wanted to
give a little nudge and bring to viewer
attention. But it came at the expense
of ‘Up Next’ which was a list of
shows that you had been watching or
had decided to add for later.
With the release of tvOS 13.3,
Apple has made amends and allowed
the setting to be changed back.
It’s perhaps something most users
will want to do because it makes it
easier to launch shows you’re already
invested in straight from the Home
screen, thereby negating the need
to launch the Apple TV app first. You
can still see suggested shows by
launching the Apple TV app.
1
Check the status
With tvOS 13 installed on Apple TV, the
Home screen banner which runs along the top
part of the screen recommends programmes
to watch whenever you select the TV app.
2
Open Settings app
If you’d prefer this banner to display the
shows you are currently watching instead by
showing what’s coming up next, then you’ll
have to change it by delving into Settings.
3
Navigate to Apps
You do this by altering an option within
the Apple TV app so, once you’re in the
Settings app, use the Siri Remote to navigate
down the screen and select the ‘Apps’ option.
