Cross Stitch Gold - UK (2020-03)

(Antfer) #1

1

Trim your stitched piece so that
it measures 35cm (13¾in) square,

with your design positioned in the

centre of the fabric.

2

Cut two pieces of backing fabric
measuring 25x35cm (10x13¾in) for

the envelope-opening back panel. Sew

a 2cm (¾in) double hem along one

long edge of each piece.

3

With right sides facing, place
these panels over the front of your

cushion cover. The raw edges should
match, and the hemmed edges of
the back panels should overlap in the
middle to create an envelope opening.

4

Pin and sew all the way around the
edge of the cushion cover, using a
1cm (½in) seam allowance.

5

Trim the corners, turn the cushion
cover through to the right side
and press on a low heat. Insert your
cushion pad to finish.

“This striking pair of goldfinches would

also look beautiful displayed on the wall –

choose a simple frame in pale wood, with

a white mount to set off the stitching.”

Goldfinch cushion

Tiny details
Goldfinches feed on small
seeds, and in this scene we can
see many of the thistle seeds
being scattered by the wind.
To depict the individual tiny
seeds, I’ve used a white cross
stitch with a dark brown French
knot worked on top. Look out
for them carefully on the chart!

So charming
Did you know that the
collective noun for a group
of goldfinches is a ‘charm’? I
think that’s such a fitting word
for these beautiful, colourful
birds, which can be found in
woodland, heathland, gardens
and parks. I hope this design
will bring a charming touch to
your living room!
