AROUND ITALY
“The referee must decide as if the
technology didn’t exist. He knows that
there’s a parachute that could help him
correct an error, even if the error remains
and whoever judges the referee doesn’t
forget it” – Former Serie A referee
Pierluigi Collina has claimed that the
match officials must make decisions “as if
VAR didn’t exist”.
“I would’ve liked to have played with
Ronaldo. Unfortunately, your choices
in life can’t be tied to the players who
are coming in.” – Former Juventus star
Claudio Marchisio regrets not being able
to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.
“I am quick and strong in the air too. I
like to play the ball to feet. All these are
words, of course, I want to show what I
can do on the pitch” – New Roma centre-
back Roger Ibanez describes his playing
style.
SCORE MORE, I SAY
Former Milan President Silvio Berlusconi says he scolded
his team for a 6-0 victory in the Derby della Madonnina,
while his contemporary Inter Milan counterpart Massimo
Moratti reveals Inter players were “crying during the
game.” Many Rossoneri supporters cherish the historic
6-0 thrashing of their arch-rivals in 2001, but Berlusconi
had a different approach. The three times prime minister
of Italy complained with the coach Cesare Maldini for the
excessive scoreline because he believed in football, it is
futile and above all unfair to rub it in when the result is
locked down.
KEEP THE TOILETS MAYBE
Former Milan midfielder Kaka hopes that “at least certain
elements’ of San Siro are saved to preserve its glorious
history. Inter and Milan are looking to build a new stadium
in order to compete with the biggest sides across Europe.
IT’S A NINE-FIELD
Former Milan striker Pippo Inzaghi believes it would have
been wise to give Zlatan Ibrahimovic the number 9 shirt
and lift the “curse”. In recent seasons, Milan number nines
have failed miserably to impress with the last wearer of
the shirt Krzysztof Piatek also falling short of expectations.
In fact, none of the forwards who inherited the shirt after
Inzaghi’s retirement have managed to make an impact.
Ibrahimovic currently wears the number 21 shirt for Milan.
ITALIAN
SUPPORT
Milan midfielder Lucas
Biglia will support Italy
during Euro 2020 and
said the best moment
of his career was to
play in the World Cup
Final with Argentina.
The former Lazio player
played for Argentina
in the 2014 World Cup
in Brazil and was in the
starting line-up when
Argentina lost 1-0 to
Germany in the Final
of the tournament.
The 34-year-old came
to Lazio in 2013 and
moved to Milan four
years later. He has
also earned Italian
citizenship in between.
I LIKE IT HERE
Roberto Mancini confesses that he never saw himself
playing for Sampdoria. Mancini became a Blucerchiati
legend, spending 15 years at the club between 1982 and
1997, but says he had no intention of playing in the city
of Genoa. Mancini stayed at Samp whilst others, like
Gianluca Vialli and Sinisa Mihajlovic, moved on to win more
silverware.
ENGLISH ... WHAT A GOOD IDEA
Roma have had great success with their change of
strategy on social media and are now working to “unite
the football world” in a mission to help missing children.
The Chief Strategy Officer Paul Rogers revealed how the
club has gained their status through an English-language
Twitter account. Roma now have the fourth most followed
English-language account of the non-English teams and
are inspiring other clubs to take similar routes. Rogers
explain how the Giallorossi approached the tool, to
communicate with fans all over the world and interact with
people through what they call the ‘Roma Admin’.
MORE GOALS... YAY!
Italy coach Roberto Mancini says
his side will play attractive football.
The ex-Sampdoria man stressed
even though Italy had won four
World Cup titles taking a defensive
approach, the upcoming European
Championship will see a more
attacking minded Azzurri side.
Mancini’s men have already proven
their ability to play fluid, attacking
football during the Euro qualifiers
where they scored 37 goals in 10
outings.
INTER THE NET
AGAIN
Udinese forward Kevin Lasagna
admits he was an Inter fan growing
up, but has already scored against
them and intends to do so again
whenever his path crosses with
the Nerazzurri. The 27-year-old
was talking to Inter TV ahead of
Udinese’s Serie A clash with Inter.
WE WON... NEXT
Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso
has taken aim at Juventus director
Pavel Nedved after the club’s
3-0 defeat at Allianz Stadium.
Commisso felt insulted by
Nedved as the latter didn’t show
the courtesy to talk and shake
hands with Commisso and other
Fiorentina officials after the game.
- Inter have lost
