AROUND GERMANY

“[Sane] costs €100 million, but you don't
know whether he will behave our not.
They could also bring in Kai Havertz who
will certainly do everything he can to
be successful. If they need a winger, I'd
advise them to look at Bremen. Rashica
would certainly be a much cheaper
option.” - Former German international
Dietmar Hamann warns Bayern Munich
against signing Leroy Sane from
Manchester City.

“I’m running out of superlatives for him.
You have to ask what magic potion he’s
been drinking. I’d like to have some of
it myself, so that I can score a couple
of goals, too!” - Eintracht Frankfurt’s
USA defender Timothy Chandler has
been playing so well in 2020 that even
his teammate Sebastian Rode can’t quite
believe it – and is jokingly suggesting
sorcery is involved.

“You see Lilian Thuram, I just see my
dad” - Lilian Thuram may have been
a FIFA World Cup winner with France
in 1998, but for son Marcus, who had a
fantastic start to his Bundesliga career
with Borussia Monchengladbach this
season, there is no pressure to live up to
his standards.

“When I train with Robert in the national
team I always watch him: I watch
everything he does and see what he
does best. I speak with him all the time
because I want to learn, and I hope I will
learn all the time.” - New Hertha Berlin
signing Krzysztof Piatek says he tries to
soak up all he can from Bayern Munich
star and fellow Poland forward Robert
Lewandowski during international breaks
in a bid to keep improving.

ON THE HEAD, MALCOLM
Doctors have advised Borussia Monchengladbach star
Christoph Kramer to wear protective headgear while
playing after the 28-year-old picked up the 6th head
injury of his career. Kramer left the pitch with a concussion
following a collision with RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner
during Monchengladbach’s 2-2 draw against Leipzig. The
midfielder played in the 2014 FIFA World Cup final with a
concussion after being hit on the head by the shoulder of
Argentina's Ezequiel Garay.

LOVE IS

BACK IN THE

AIR
Former BVB star
Roman Weidenfeller
seems to have
patched things up
with his wife Lisa,
as they were seen
enjoying a holiday trip
together in Maldives.
The couple got
married in 2015, but
Lisa moved out with
their son Leonard in
2018 upon ‘’mutual
consent’’. But their
love life seems to
be back on track, as
the two have been
spending a lot of time
together.

JUST STOP

COMPLAINING
Bayern Munich legend
Lothar Matthaus believes
players shouldn’t be
showed yellow cards for
expressing their dissent
front of the referee.
Matthaus was speaking
in the wake of Borussia
Monchengladbach striker
Alassane Plea’s dismissal
Leipzig. The Frenchman
picked up a yellow card
for complaining to the
referee then he was
shown a second yellow
he persisted complaining.

RHINE WHINE
Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro took a sly dig at
neighbors FC Cologne. Carro smugly aimed a shot towards
FC Cologne suggesting teams like Atletico Madrid come to
play at Leverkusen in the Champions League, but ‘’nobody
knows that football is also played in Cologne.’’ Fernando
Carro’s FC Cologne counterpart Horst Heldt fired back at
Leverkusen in replied to Carro’s remarks and suggested
nobody knows Carro outside of Leverkusen.

IN A FUNK
Friedhelm Funkel said
goodbye to the Fortuna
Dusseldorf fans in a
handwritten letter
published by Bild. In his
four-year stint, Funkel
cultivated a strong
bond with the Fortuna
faithful. The club
decided to part ways
with the 66-year-old
following disappointing
results that dragged
the Rheinlanders down
to the bottom of the
table.

BIG SHOES TO FILL
Philipp Pentke was a fairly
unknown name among the
Hoffenheim faithful, but the
34-year-old has made his
presence known recently.
Stepping in for regular goalkeeper
Oliver Baumann, who suffered an
unfortunate meniscus tear, the
ex-Regensburg keeper has put
in some fantastic performances.
Pentke attributes his success to
his mom, who has always been
the biggest source of inspiration
in his career.

HOLY ROLLERS
RB Leipzig is the youngest club
in the Bundesliga, but they
already managed to cultivate a
passionate fan base. And now
they have a fan club that has its
own coach for away games. The
"Holy Bulls" (280 members /
officially founded in 2014) set off
for the cup game in Frankfurt with
their brand new 430 horsepower
"MAN Lions Coach", which cost
the bunch as much as €300,000.

HELL HATH NO

FURY...
Emil Forsberg watched
on from the bench as
his colleagues kicked
off the proceeding in
Leipzig’s goalless draw
at Allianz Arena. This
was the second time
in a row coach Julian
Nagelsmann left the
Sweden international out
of his starting XI, and
Forsberg's wife Shanga,
who once played for
the Swedish U19 national team and the RB women, let
her feelings known on Instagram posting: “Nobody in
the world has the right to treat you like sh**. Don't forget
that”- tagging Emil Forsberg.

BLOOD

SUGAR
TV viewers were
left in awe when
they witnessed
Schalke center-
back Ozan
Kabak being
injected by a
needle in his
stomach mid-
game during
the cup tie
against Hertha
Berlin. Doping?
Of course not!
Kabak is diabetic, so he has to keep supplying his body
with insulin. The Turkish international measures his blood
sugar level using an app on the smartphone, which is held
by a sensor that is attached to his upper arm.
