shoved in the deep end and
having to cope with me,
tirelessly smashing away
at the shutter button.
From that point on I
wanted to be an automotive
photographer, full-time, and
was able to land a job doing
precisely that for HotRods
magazine in South Africa. I
was still using the Canon EOS
1100D as it performed really
well – it’s done multiple cover
photos! I even shot some b-roll
video footage for a local TV
show called the Rod Shop.
So many people are amazed
when they hear which camera
I’ve used to take my photos
- even owners of the 1100D
have been amazed. I wanted
to write in and tell PhotoPlus
readers that, in order to make
good and even great photos,
you need to learn photography
and focus less on what camera
you have – it’s not about
having the most expensive kit.
Canon makes ace cameras and
lenses even at the budget end.
As my trusted 1100D is
showing its age and, as a
result of the ‘abuse’ I’ve put it
through, I will be upgrading
to the new 90D. But if you take
one thing away from this story
it’s that people should take the
time to focus on photography
skills rather than gear, don’t
be discouraged if all you can
afford is entry-level gear,
make it work for you!
