(^01) BLACK SUNSET

added snow digitally in post-production

which was enough to create
the vertical blur you can see
here. The snow looks sharp
over the top of this because
I added it in Photoshop. For
colder climates there’s no
substitute for warm clothing
and having plenty of spare
batteries with you.
The groins in my image

from my time in Brittany,
France. I wanted to use my
technique of going mono and
use a long exposure to make
the wooden posts stand out as
the motion of the sea water
was blurred around them in
a long two minute exposure.
The image of the cooling
towers was shot in Northern
France at the nuclear power
station of Cattenom. I’d often
seen them as my family drove
by on past holidays, and I’d
always wanted to stop and
take a photo. There was quite
a lot of preparation for this
shot, as I only had a small
window of time to work with.
Finding the right spot to shoot
from was also a problem.
I used Google Maps to get the
coordinates and then The
Photographer’s Ephemeris
app to help me work out what
times it would look best and
also the angle of the sun.
A long shutter allows me to add
movement and drama to the image.
It feels like I’m getting more creative
