Winston-Salem, North Carolina In
2016, UNC student Henry Ballard
made an amazing discovery while ex-
ploring his new home on Butler Street.
In a corner of the basement, Henry
found a box containing more than
100 love letters between Pvt. John
Eidson and Miss Lillian Seal, dating
back to World War II.
“He talks about boot camp and
military life, music on the radio, the
occasional political note, friends
back home,” Henry told the Winston-
Salem Journal. “I loved reading
through them, and seeing how people talked and wrote
back then—his writing to her is very sweet and romantic.”
After the war, John and Lillian had married and moved into
the house on Butler Street. Henry wanted to return the
letters to their rightful owners, but the Eidsons had both died.
Eventually, he was able to locate their daughter, Susan
Seastrunk, who was overjoyed to have the letters back. But
connecting with Susan hadn’t been easy. Henry’s mes-
sages over social media went unanswered, so he decided
to take a lesson from her dad—and sent Susan a letter.

Cantonment, Florida Twelve-year-old Nicholas Deleon
never could’ve guessed the outcome of his search for a
missing sandal.
According to WKRG News, Nicholas’s mother, Terrie,
had taken him and his siblings to Spring Lake that Sunday.
Playing outside by the lake was a family weekend rou -
tine, though this time, Terrie let them explore a new area.

had gone missing. He ran into the woods to retrieve it.
When he didn’t return, his family went looking for him.
They found Nicholas deep in the woods. He’d come
across a senior citizen, lying near a truck. Clifford Reyn-
