Tap the three dots (top right), pick Export, then
Animated GIF to save a slide in that format. GIFs
aren’t interactive; set actions that normally require
a tap to run after a delay.

Tap each action to check

two simultaneous

scale, don’t feel like
they’re perfectly in
sync, look here for
the discrepancy.
ON 28 MARCH, Apple issued
updates to the iWork apps
— Pages, Numbers and
Keynote — that bring new
features to the iPad. Those in Keynote
begin to explore the possibilities of the
touch interface for designing slides from
scratch with animations and transitions.
The contextual menu that appears
when you tap on any object on a slide
now includes an Animate option. Tap
this and you can add a build–in transition,
a build–out transition, and a variety of
actions in between. These all apply to the
individual object, independent of any
transitions between this and the previous
or next slide.
The Ľrst option, Create Path, lets you
draw with your Ľnger to set how the
object will move across the screen. The
freehand drawing method makes it
simple, but tends to register small
unintentional movements as extra points,
making wobbles and wiggles. The best
approach is not to worry about exactly
where the path goes, just draw one clear
line (or a zig–zag, if you need the object
Animate objects in Keynote
Use Keynote’s new actions and transitions for eye–catching effects
to visit more than one point), tap Done,
then drag the points to reposition them
if necessary.
Having added one or more animations,
tap the three dots at the top right, pick
Transitions and Builds, then tap the list
icon (next to Done at the top right) to
adjust the order in which animations play,
and whether they’ll wait for you to tap
when presenting your deck. ADAM BANKS
