or the past few years,
developer Rusty Lake has
been rapidly expanding the
surreal universe that
shares its name. There are
the Rusty Lake games – bigger puzzle
titles that come with a price tag – and the
shorter Cube Escape series, which hurtle
the player from one strange locked room
to another. They’re basically room
escapes, but with a macabre sense of
humour, a touch of Lynchian weirdness,
and cryptic stories that have inspired
much fan debate. It’s an inspired
concoction, with challenging puzzles and
an absorbing atmosphere. Lynchian stuff

uzzleScript is a brilliant tool,
allowing people to easily create
Sokoban-style games such as
Alan Hazelden’s Skipping Stones. It’s an
open-ended puzzler that asks you to cross
a series of islands, using only stones and
lily pads. Stones can be skipped along
water, while lily pads can be shunted aside.
The result is a devious puzzler. TS

ichael Brough’s Corrypt isn’t quite
what it appears, your first clue
being the name ‘Michael Brough’.
His games always surprise. Corrypt is a
block-pushing game where you end up
changing the nature of its world. The best
puzzle games leave you open-mouthed at
