Nose: Toffee caramel
bars, then sherbet and
very faint liquorice. Wax
jackets and warm tweed
blankets. Sweetness
with sugar coated
almonds, honey roast
cashew nuts. A little
Playdoh edge. Cigarette
papers and recently
snuffed candles.
Palate: Green tea
with honey, cough
syrup and rose Turkish
Delight coated in milk
chocolate. Cheese
scones with salted
butter. Damson jam.
Finish: Long. Hints
of raspberry and
strawberry compote.
Comments: Magnificent,
a rip-roaring whisky
giving great pleasure.
Nose: Calpol. In fact,
I actually googled
what Calpol smells
like because it’s
such a distinctive
aroma. There’s ripe
mango flesh, Love
Heart sweets, dried
cranberries and Dundee
cake too.
Palate: Pineapple rings
with oak smoked ham,
peach yoghurt, heather
honey and sultanas.
Torched grapefruit peel,
wholemeal pancakes
and ground cinnamon.
Finish: A long dry finish
with a strong nutty
influence from the oak.
Comments:
Straightforward and
uncomplicated with
tropical delightfulness.

Nose: Gentle at first, salt
laden flowers, sea pinks,
buttered samphire and
pan-fired scallops and
roes. BBQ wood smoked
prawns and ham hock.
Distant grass fires.
Butter with salt crystals.
Pomegranate ice cream.
Palate: Sweetness
at first, Gala melons
and air-dried ham.
Cherry jam and grilled
nectarines. Forest floor
notes, burning bracken
and pine needles.
Finish: Prickly and fruity,
a lot like a pineapple
roasted in woodchips.
Comments: Like eating
a hot buttered crumpet
and maple syrup next
to a campfire on
the beach.
Nose: Butterscotch
angel delight, raspberry
jelly, fresh ginger and
crunchy peanut butter.
Salt and cider vinegar
crisps appear and
pine wood shavings
appear alongside
praline pecans.
Palate: A light
sweetness of
buttercream, key lime
pie, candy floss and
cherry sorbet. Sesame
oil and peppermint tea
enter with a sprinkling of
coffee grinds
Finish: A sweet tingling
sensation that turns into
an oily finish.
Comments: Candyfloss
melting in your mouth
while smoking a
herbal cigarette.

Nose: Very gentle with
sweetness and dying
wood embers, a little
light peat which builds
slowly in time. Smoked
herring in newspaper,
cedar soap bars and
wrappers. Coconut
suntan lotion.
Palate: That smoked
fish note comes through
lightly, a beech wood
smoke edge with
smoked sea salt and
white pepper spices.
Finish: Swift and drying,
but leaning on those
smoked notes and a
little saline cracker.
Comments: A very
gentle Islay example,
sedate and restive.
Nose: Well this one’s all
peachy! Peach flesh, Irn
Bru bars, treacle toffees
and hot vanilla custard.
Then undertones of
black pudding drizzled
in maple syrup and
struck matches.
Palate: A soft kiwi skin,
cashew milk and clove
covered tangerines.
Burnt marshmallows,
marzipan, honeysuckle
and passionfruit coulis
drizzled rocky roads
underline the smoke.
Finish: Super light
in texture and well
balanced with tonnes of
overripe fruits.
Comments: Washing the
smoke out of your hair
with fruity shampoo.
