Q. What are the major attractions
for Indian students in St. George’s
University?
A. As Indian citizens make their mark
around the world, especially in medi-
cine, medical education with a global
focus from St. George’s University
matches the interest and expectations
of the students. The university offers
a variety of courses in medicine and
veterinary medicine in addition to inde-
pendent and dual graduate degrees in
science, public health and business.


Q. What are the eligibility norms and
pattern of the Doctor of Medicine
programme?
A. Students from India with good per-
centage at 10+2 or ‘A’ level will typi-
cally enter into the 5-year Doctor of
Medicine programme. The first two
years of this programme can either be
completed at our affiliate, Northumbria
University in Newcastle in the UK, or in
Grenada, and the final two clinical years
of the programme can be completed in
one of our affiliated hospitals located in
the UK, USA or Canada.


Q. Are there any scholarships avail-
able at the university?
A. The university offers two scholar-
ships, the International Peace Scholar-
ship and Global Scholars Scholarship.
The International Peace Scholarship
programme is committed to promot-
ing a student body made up of diverse
nationalities and cultural backgrounds,
which in the future will contribute to a
worldwide medical community. Partial


scholarships are awarded to non-US
students who exhibit academic excel-
lence and demonstrate financial need.
The Global Medicine Scholarship
programme is committed to promot-
ing a student body made up of diverse
nationalities and cultural backgrounds
specifically within the Keith B. Taylor
Global Scholars Programme, which in
the future will contribute to a world-
wide medical community.

Q. Any specific courses in Public
Health that suit Indian students?
A. CEPH accredited public health pro-
gramme is apt for Indian students. It
is a dual MD/MPH degree. It is avail-
able through the Department of Pub-
lic Health and Preventive Medicine’s
US based CEPH-accredited Master of

Public Health programme. The dual
degree programme is a solid foundation
for future leaders in the vital area of
public health as graduates are prepared
to take on senior roles in government,
international relations and research.
Students in the dual degree programme
learn the principles of public health and
develop the skills to apply these princi-
ples to real-life problems in communi-
ties of all sizes. The MPH is offered
online and there is a start date in mid-
May which allows dual degree students
to begin with the MPH degree and enter
the MD degree in August.

Q. Which are the areas in which
Indian students excel? In doctoral
studies or research programmes?
A. Indian students engage in global
health issues that are priority areas,
including antimicrobial resistance, vec-
tor-borne diseases from an infectious
disease perspective as well as heart dis-
ease, diabetes and cancers as chronic
disease issues.

Q. What are the various options that
an Indian student has in terms of job
prospects?
A. St. George’s University School of
Medicine isn’t just a top Caribbean med-
ical university. We have gradually devel-
oped networks with many hospitals and
clinical partners in the US, UK and Can-
ada. This experience will further allow
our students to obtain diverse experi-
ence with different patient populations
in a variety of environments and gain
valuable international experience.
