Thrasher – August 2019

(avery) #1
228 Thrasher

his had better be the last one of these we have to
do for a long, long time, but once again we begin
by saying goodbye to a dear friend taken far too
soon. Ben Raemers was as sweet as he was talented,
radiating joy to whomever he encountered with his pureness of heart.
His suicide has left us shaken, reminding us that things aren’t always
as they seem and renewing our resolve to really, really look out for one
another as best we can. Come together. We can do this. We have to.

skateboards for some co-branded creativity.
Meanwhile, Dogtown took the long-idle reigns
from Zorlac to pump out Metallica models,
Red Dog putting that custom fade on each and
every one his damn self. Hella clean. Habitat shot
for the stars with their NASA joint, totally
appropriate because team rider Mark Suciu’s
part that’s about to drop is gonna be out of this
world. See what we did there?
Footwear-wise we got two-time SOTY Chris
Cole circling back to the reborn Fallen label
while upstart Kaue Kossa signed on the
dotted line with Cons. Mike “Lizard King”
Plumb got a new custom kick from Supra,
Jamie Foy got some signature sneakers with
New Balance and Tristan “T-Funk”
Funkhouser will be lacing up some
DCs with his name on ’em. Nice! In
other tales of reunification, Zoo
York has brought back a few of the
original figures for some sort of
do-over, details soon we hope,
while on the snacking front,
Tony Hawk is back promoting
Bagel Bites. Never tried ’em,
heard good things. Amateurs
John Clemmons and Cotie
Robinson have split from
Foundation citing unduly
heavy filming pressure, or it
coulda just been because John
needed another bubble bath.
Either way, good luck to those
rippers.
Video vortex keeps a
swirling. Look out for kill flicks
on the site this month
including a Wet and Wild water
slide extravaganza from
Masher’s Chris Gregson,
another banger from Jamie
Foy for NB#, Bronson’s
Southern sojourn (with all the
major moves shown this
month, jeez-us!), a going-pro
Deedz capsule from Panda
Patrol, Girl’s Australia trip,
T-Funk’s DC shoe drop and,
of course, this full-length
Mark Suciu part—a Thrasher
exclusive. Amen.

If her agents call, tell ‘em Nora’s out skating

BOXED UP

HELLO GOODBYE

Tyler “Manchild” Pacheco and Simon
Bannerot’s pro status was revealed by the ad(s)
in this very mag, so big ups to both of them.
Power of the print, y’all. In the Great Lakes
region, Real’s Jack Olson got the big bump after
years of heavy handrail harassment and over in
the Old Country, enjoi busted out pro boards for
Didrik “Deedz” Galasso. Cop ‘em! One for the
wall, one for the curbs.
Okay. Let’s talk trucks. Interviewee Donovon
Piscopo has made the move to Thunder while
Independent signed up a regular United Colors
of Benetton worth of international riders
including Fabiana Delfino, Heitor da Silva,
Hermann Stene, Jaakko Ojanen,
Alexis Ramirez,
Trevor McClung,
Myles Willard
and Giovanni
Vianna. Down
the hall, Krux joined
forces with animated
sea creature

SpongeBob SquarePants
for some signature turnage,
also appearing on the
popular Mob brand of
griptape, new home of
Mason Silva and Cyrus
Bennett coincidentally. Bronson added some pro
bearings to the case: lavender lovelies for Nora
Vasconcellos and BMW M3s for Ishod Wair.
David Gravette even managed to keep his leg in
socket long enough to film a whole video part for
the killer B. Coming soon, ya’ll.
In mash-up news, workwear brand Carhartt
doubled up with
Australia’s white-hot
Pass~Port

It’s all fun and games ’til you
notice Spidey’s got a sidepipe.
Be careful out there, Baker boys!
