recirculation(EGR)valveappears
tobeacommonproblemacrossa
numberofdieselenginevehicles,
includingJaguars.Thefirstyou’llknow
aboutit,though,iswhentheengine
managementlightremainsilluminated
onthedashboard,threateningfailure
atthenextMOTtest.
Theemissions-relatedEGRvalveis
designedtoreducepollutionbyfeeding
wastegasesbackintotheinduction
system.Consequently,thecarbonand
oilvapourfromthosewastegasescoat
theinsideofallcomponentsconcerned.
Usually,theEGRvalveisthefirsttofail,
raisingafaultcode.
OntheXF2.2D,thecoolant-fed
EGRcoolercanalsobeaffected,which
willaddanother£400tothefinal
bill,althoughit’snotalwaysthecase.
However,itisworthwhilebeingcautious
aboutreplacinganEGRvalve–Jaguaralso
recommendsrenewingasteelpipethatis
routedbetweenitandthethrottlebody,
whichcostsaround£150.Infact,Jaguar
stipulatesitmustberenewedifyoubuya
JaguarreplacementEGRvalvetomaintain
thepart’swarranty.Theoldsteelpipethat
weseebeingremovedhereiscertainly
cloggedwithcarbon,anditisdifficultto
fullycleanout.
