ThelargerearmostmountingbushfortheXJ6’smanualgearboxcanbe
replacedfromtheundersideofthevehicle.First,theengineandfront
areaofthegearboxshouldbesupportedwithatransmissionjack
Therebuiltmountismovedintopositionontopofthetransmission
jack.Itsfourmountingboltsarerefitted(includinganyspacers),butnot
fullytightened.Then,thetransmissionjackisremoved
Asecondtransmissionjackispositionedunderneaththerearmost
gearboxmount.Next,thefour½in–or^9 / 16 in–boltsthatsecurethe
mounttothebodyworkcanbeundone,followedbyone¾incentrenut
Thecentrethreadmustsitcentralthroughtheholeinthemiddleofthe
mount(itsfourmountingholesareelongatedtoachievethis).Then,all
fourboltsaretightened,followedbythecentrenut

Thetechniciannowundoesthe¾incentre
nutand,asinmanycases,theentirestud
(threadedintothegearbox)comeswithit.
Thisisn’taproblem,becausethenutcanbe
undonebygrippingthestudinavice
Withthemountdismantled,theoldbushes
canbediscardedandsomeofthecomponents
cleaned.Itcanbereassembledusingthenew
oblongbushes

Thesearethenewcomponentsthatmakeup
thegearboxmount–acoilspringwithtop
andbottomrubberseats,acentrebush,and
twooblongbushes.Theoldmountneedstobe
dismantledtofittheoblongbushes
Withnewcentrebushpushedintothemiddleof
themount,anewcoilspringwithrubberseats
andawasherispositionedontop.Extracted
thread(step4)isrefittedtogearbox

Inourcase,thebushhasbrokeninthecentre,
sothe¾incentrenutcanremainfittedand
theentiregearboxmountberemoved.The
secondtransmissionjackhasbeenremoved,
butthegearboxremainssupported
Aftersecuringthemountinavice,two^9 / 16 in
nutsareundoneforeachoblongbushandtwo
¾innutsandboltsareslackenedtoallowthe
mounttobedismantledandbushesreplaced
