multiple gunshot wounds in
separate upstairs bedrooms.
Police were treating the tragedy
as a double-murder suicide,
Doncaster coroner’s court heard.
Jones’ had emailed Kenneth
Petch, a family friend of more
than 40 years, a day before and
asked him to forward the message
to his parents Roy and Rita.
It read: “I do this to protect
Emma. It’s taken me 18 years, but
I have been manipulated for too
long. I cannot bear the thought of
this happening to a special
12-year-old. I’m sorry to produce
such chaos.”
Jones was born on August 28,
1972, at Doncaster Royal
Infirmary and was adopted by
Roy and Rita aged five months.
He worked for the family engi-
neering firm
before studying
at the Univer-
sity of Liverpool. He moved to
California around 20 years ago,
where he met Jennifer. They went
to New York in 2006 after he took
a position with GlobalFoundries.
His parents said in a statement
they were not aware of any finan-
cial, health or marital difficulties.
Roy told police his son was not
his “usual chirpy self ” when he
called a few days before his death.
Verdict: Suicide.

FAREWELL Lee Tracey
Hero send-off
for lonely RAF
man Lee, 93
MORE than 250 strangers
attended the funeral of a
wartime RAF sergeant
with no living family.
Harold “Lee” Tracey, 93,
died of a stroke in May and
it was feared no one would
be at his funeral as his wife
Maria passed away in 2014.
But the RAF Association
got 250 service personnel
to attend a service with full
military honours yesterday.
Troops from RAF Shaw-
bury acted as pallbearers
in Shrewsbury, Shropshire.
Ex-Wing Commander
Nick Nicholson, of the RAF
Association, called him: “A
true hero who served his
country for many years.”
He was enlisted in 1943
and worked on surveil-
lance in Egypt, India and
Iraq until he left in 1947.
He was in the security
services until 1970 before
starting his own firm.
