Refer to the Sedona photo, page 116, as you follow the
process.

Create 2 squares—one straight and one on-point.

When you do this, the 1, 1.414, and 1 value divisions
emerge, just like the top edge of a LeMoyne Star. This
enables me to draft a new, smaller 8-pointed star (page
54).

  1. Label the divisions A and B. Working clockwise from
the top edge, connect each A to an opposite B and to
a second B to create the small diamond and triangle,
    shaded in.

Label the points and draw the LeMoyne Star.

Erase all unnecessary lines, leaving only seamlines, to reveal a
smaller 8-pointed star and 8 triangles

  1. You can then fracture these new shapes. I fractured
the large diamond into 4 smaller diamonds by finding
the midpoint of all 4 sides and connecting them, sort of
like a slanted 4-patch unit. Next, I fractured one of the
inner diamonds again in the same way (green).

  2. The triangles appear too large and out of propor-
tion to the diamonds, so I fractured each triangle into
4 smaller triangles, giving additional color and fabric
opportunities. Find the midpoint of each of the 3 sides
of the triangle, connect those points to create a square,
then divide the square in half diagonally. One triangle is
    now 4 (orange).

  1. Moving outward, split the kite shape vertically from
point to point. In this example, I left the adjoining trian-
gles plain (red). You do not have to fracture every shape.
