BARBARA CUMMINS has become the
21st Chair of the Cockburn Association.
This is the first time in the organisation’s
148-year history that a woman has held
this position.
Ms Cummins said: “It is an honour to be
the new Chair of such an important
Edinburgh civic body and to build on the
work of my immediate predecessor, Cliff
Hague. I am looking forward to working
with the team, Trustees and wider
stakeholders as well as getting to know
the members better.
“This is an exciting time for the
Cockburn as we approach the 150th
anniversary and there will be much to
reflect back on and celebrate. I also know I
have big shoes to fill and many challenges
ahead as Edinburgh continues to evolve in
the face of global issues and local
pressures. I know the Cockburn has an
important role to play in helping to shape
the future, as well as celebrating the past,
of this unique city.”

DELTA AIR LINES has begun
flying daily nonstop from
Edinburgh to Atlanta
complementing the airline’s existing
daily flights from Edinburgh to
New York-JFK and Boston.
Delta’s Atlanta service has not
been flown in more than a decade
and will increase capacity to the

Scottish capital by 90% on last year.
The service will link Scotland to the
airline’s leading U.S. gateway and
world’s largest airport.
Paul Hassenstab, Delta’s
Director Sales Europe, Middle East,
Africa, and India said: “Bringing
back our nonstop service from
Edinburgh to Atlanta offers our
customers more than 200 onward
destinations across the United

States and beyond as well as
providing more options for U.S.
visitors to Scotland.
“The strong ties between our
two nations are historic and
enduring, and with positive
demand for all our Scottish services
both from business and leisure
customers, we have grown our
schedule between Scotland and the
U.S. by 90% compared to last year.”

VOTING HAS opened for
the Scottish Bar and Pub
Awards 2023.
The awards, often
dubbed the ‘Hospitality
Oscars’, are Scotland’s

longest running licensed
trade awards and
celebrate the industry’s
rising stars, customer
service gurus and creative
forces.
Members of the public
can choose from a

selection of awards to vote
for their favourite venue.
Whether they are
supplying top service for
your furry friends, shaking
the best cocktails in town,
championing the best live
music or even giving back
to the community – the
judges want to know what
you think.
The judges will also be
checking out whisky bars,
new bars, hotel bars and
outside areas too, as well
as employers, bar
managers, bar apprentices
and young licensed trade
entrepreneurs.

The awards ceremony
will be held on 29 August
and is a highlight in the
licensed trade calendar.
Event organiser Susan
Young explained, “We
need all the customers out
there to vote. Once the
votes have been counted
then our mystery shoppers
will visit. The results will
not be revealed until the
ceremony which will be
attended by the top 4
finalists in each category.
“It’s set to be another
incredible year for our
28th Scottish Bar and Pub
Awards as we look to

recognise some of the
most creative, hard-
working and beloved
venues in the country.
The ethos has always been
about recognising great
venues and applauding
the people who put their
heart and soul into
